Yerevan (Երևան) is the capital and the largest city of Armenia. Founded in 782 BC as Erebuni, is considered one of the world's oldest continuously inhabited cities. Situated along the Hrazdan River. Yerevan is the administrative, cultural, and industrial center of the country. The principal symbol of Yerevan is Mount Ararat, which is visible from any area in the capital. Yerevan's 2020 population is estimated at 1,086,275. Since Armenia's independence in 1991 from the Soviet Union, Yerevan has undergone major transformation. Much construction has been undertaken throughout the city. Many buildings, hotels, shops, restaurants, cafes, and tourism have increased exponentially.
