Artashat (Ardashad, Արտաշատ) is a city in Armenia, the administrative center of the Ararat Province. It is in the central part of Ararat Plain, on the left bank of the Araks River, 30 kms (19 miles) southeast of the capital Yerevan at an average elevation of 830 m (2,723 ft) above sea level. Has a climate with long, hot, dry summers and short cold winters. It is famously home to the historic Khor Virap Monastery, a major pilgrimage site situated just 15 km south of the modern city. Artashat has about 17,868 residents as of 2026. Its economy is anchored by Food Processing & Canning (makers of the Artfood brand), Beverages & Spirits, Mineral Water & Soft Drinks, Construction & Building Materials, and Textiles & Light Manufacturing.
